- Yes! C&K’s expertise with forming clear material extends from Polycarbonate, PET, and RPET to Acrylic, PETG, and more.
- Are there benefits to thermoforming vs. other methods?
- Thermoforming excels at producing complex shapes and doing so in a cost-effective way. This is largely because the tooling used in thermoforming is much less expensive those used for other plastic processes.
- What are the common applications for heavy gauge vacuum forming?
- Applications include industrial and consumer products alike. These can be trays, drain pans, ice- and, soft drink machines, and much more.

C&K – Three Things to Know before Buying Vacuum-Formed Parts
Today we want to highlight three important factors that come into play when you purchase vacuum-formed parts. This video featuring C&K President Bob Carrier gives a great overview of things that enter into the equation when manufacturing thermoformed/vacuum-formed parts.
1) Start with the right resin. Whatever your desired part characteristics—weather-, impact -, or abrasion resistance, ease of coloring, UL rating, UF transmission—C&K can advise you on the material that will provide a consistent melt flow and meet your application needs.
2) Use the correct processing equipment. C&K’s engineers focus on using microprocessor-controlled heaters that offer uniform form heating and consistent part forming. That means adequate sheet core heating and minimal temperature gradient through the sheet. In all production cases, C&K brings the optimal machine type, whether zero sag, shuttle, or automatic load/unload rotary machines to deliver the right part with the right performance characteristics.
3) Material is critical. Semi-crystalline olefins, Thermoplastic Olefins (TPO), polyethylene, polypropylene, we will make sure the material used is tailored to meet the correct melt flow to work in harmony with the other process factors.
